Event Details

Once upon a time in the summer of 2007, Leah Jones stood in front of a room of musicians, activists, artists and entreprenuers and taught them about search and RSS in a class called Going Beyond Google. In the front row sat a young rapper named Y-Love.

Y-love knew that he ruled the search for his name on Google, but never thought to search for bloggers talking about him or to look at the world of music beyond MySpace. Y-love took to RSS and monitoring and a year later asked Leah, "What about Twitter, should I tweet? Is it worth my time?"

The legend goes on that in January 2009, Y-love told Leah that the skills she taught him in the summer of 2007 had changed his career as a hip hop artist and as an activist. It was that moment that inspired Leah to take a leap, quit her corporate job and start Natiiv Arts & Media.

In modern days, Leah is the founder of Natiiv Arts & Media where she is a Social Media Coach for musicians. She does private lessons covering a long list of social media tools for musicians to use to build relationships, find fans, sell CDs and fill venues.

In this Power Hour (and a half) Leah will give you the same lesson that she gave Y-love in 2007. Going Beyond Google and Twitter. Then Y-love will tell his story about how using social media has changed his career and given him more opportunities to perform, write and connect.

The Roger Smith Hotel is a generous sponsor of this event and our location. We'll be in the Screening Room.

Natiiv Arts & Media

At Natiiv Arts & Media, we believe that you can do all this social media stuff on your own. Yep, we just said it. We aren’t here to do communications for you, but to teach you how to use social media tools in your marketing mix.

We’ve worked with musicians, writers, accountants, theaters and clergy. While our focus is working with individuals involved in creative pursuits, we work with non-profits, small businesses and curious people around the world to answer questions about Twitter, Facebook, ethics, search skills, blogging, online photo and video, and more.
